Jupiter is combust from July 14 to August 13, 2026. Combustion means it is hidden in the night sky because it is too close to the Sun. It is one of the biggest afflictions for planets that really is not talked about enough as combust planets are burnt up and their significations are hurt.

Jupiter governs wisdom, generosity, optimism, good judgment, spiritual grace, our teachers and gurus, our children, and the expansion of consciousness. When Jupiter is combust, these significations go dim. The specific danger is false optimism – things can look and feel rosy when they are not, and reality can set in hard after all the false hopes have built up. Check your facts carefully during this period, especially when a situation seems too good to be true. Do not sign contracts or make big commitments without sober second looks.

A Saving Factor This Cycle

This particular Jupiter combustion carries something neither the 2019 nor the 2024 combustion held: Jupiter is in Cancer, the sign of its exaltation. Exaltation is one of the great saving factors for an afflicted planet. A combust planet that is also exalted retains more of its essential quality than one caught combust in a neutral or enemy sign. The significations of Jupiter are hurt, but they are not destroyed. There is still light inside the fire.

Jupiter is also transiting Pushya nakshatra (Cancer 3 degrees 20 minutes to 16 degrees 40 minutes) for the entire combustion window. Pushya is considered one of the most auspicious constellations in the zodiac. Its presiding deity is Brihaspati – the high priest of the gods, the divine Jupiter himself. Most planets except Saturn are uplifted when transiting Pushya because the energy of Brihaspati flows through that field. The irony is remarkable: Jupiter is combust and overshadowed by the Sun while simultaneously moving through the constellation of its own deity. The Guru is temporarily hidden, but the ground it walks is his own sacred territory. This is not an ordinary combustion.

The Cazimi – July 28 to July 30

When the Sun and Jupiter reach exact conjunction – July 29, 2026, at Cancer 12 degrees 11 minutes, Pushya pada 3 – something unusual occurs. Western astrology calls this Cazimi, meaning Jupiter enters the heart of the Sun. In the classical tradition this is not affliction but exaltation of a different kind: the planet is carried into the heart of God. Those ruled by the Sun – Leo rising, Aries rising, people running Sun dashas or Sun antar-dashas – may find the days around July 28 to July 30 carry an unusual lift of confidence, generosity, and spiritual clarity. This is the one bright window in an otherwise subdued Jupiter period. Watch for it.

Supporting the Liver

Jupiter rules the liver in Ayurvedic anatomy. When Jupiter is afflicted, liver energy can flag. Drink fresh organic squeezed lemon in some hot water in the morning to get that liver moving. Acts of generosity toward teachers, spiritual guides, and Brahmins help restore Jupiter’s significations – feeding others, donating to those who educate, sponsoring learning. These acts literally feed the Jupiter principle at a time when it is running on reduced fuel. Yellow topaz or yellow sapphire worn in gold can be considered if you have Jupiter well-placed in your natal chart.

Rising Signs Most Affected

Those with Sagittarius or Pisces rising feel this most directly, as Jupiter rules both those ascendants. Fatigue, reduced optimism, and a heaviness in motivation are the characteristic symptoms. Extra rest, less travel, and pulling back on large commitments will serve you well through mid-August.

Cancer rising with Jupiter transiting the first house while combust may feel an unusual self-doubt and lowering of natural confidence. The exaltation in Cancer helps – this is not collapse but a temporary dimming. Stay steady.

Leo rising and those in Sun dashas may paradoxically feel more energized than usual, especially around the cazimi window, as the Sun absorbs Jupiter’s exalted warmth.

New Moon in Punarvasu – July 14

The combustion window opens on the same day as the July new moon, which falls in Punarvasu nakshatra at Gemini 27 degrees 52 minutes. Punarvasu means the return of light – a signal, even at the start of a difficult transit, that renewal is built into the cycle. Intentions set at this new moon around teachers, wisdom, learning, and spiritual guidance carry the quality of the nakshatra and can anchor you through the weeks ahead.

Sun in Cancer

The Sun enters Cancer sidereal on July 16, just two days after combustion begins, and the themes of home, mother, nourishment, and emotional roots deepen for the remainder of the window. Cancer is the Moon’s sign, and the Sun here is in fall in Vedic astrology – solar fire runs at a lower voltage than usual. The compensation is Jupiter’s exaltation in the same sign: what the Sun loses in force, Jupiter gains in depth and nurturing quality. This combination favors inner work, family, and spiritual retreat more than outward expansion.

Of course, transits are 20% of timing and all is contextual to the larger cycles you are running. If you are in a strong Jupiter dasha or a Moon dasha with Jupiter well-placed, this combustion will barely register.
