The path of totality itself threads a narrow line across Greenland, Iceland, and parts of Spain, Portugal, Russia, France, and the UK. Eclipses are more powerful when they are seen, and several of these countries, already dealing with migrant crises (Rahu), will have this pot stirred over the coming months.
We will not see it from Fairfield, or from most of North America. As with the eclipse we covered last September, the physical spectacle staying out of view here changes nothing about the astrological weight of the day. The Sun and Moon are still meeting, Rahu’s shadow is still falling across that meeting point, and the chart of every person on Earth still registers it.
Ashlesha – The Nakshatra of the Coiled Serpent
This eclipse does not fall in a quiet corner of the zodiac. Ashlesha, spanning Cancer 16°40′ to 30°00′, is symbolized by the coiled serpent resting at the base of the spine. Its name means “the tangled one,” and it points directly at our addictions, our habits, and the things we cannot easily let go of. The ruling deities are the Nagas, the Serpent Kings, and the shakti this nakshatra carries is described plainly: the power to inflict poisonous venom.
Serpents carry two faces at once. On one side, Ashlesha can open a genuinely deep mystical experience, a real spiritual inquiry into what lies coiled beneath the surface of ordinary awareness. On the other side, unworked, it is the nakshatra of the poisoned tongue: gossip, grudges, and the slow venom of things left unsaid.
Ashlesha is ruled by Mercury, Mr. Quicksilver himself, which means this eclipse also touches how we speak, what we choose to say, and what we choose to swallow instead. We need to avoid hurling insults and foul language at others when we are angry, and to avoid gossip.
The post-eclipse hangover happens later in the month, when the Sun is conjunct Ketu on August 22nd, with a 3-degree orb from August 20-25th. This energy often leads to falls in leadership, scandals, and embarrassing mistakes, as Ketu chops off the head (ego) to remind us of deeper spiritual values in our life.

Practical Eclipse Guidelines
Before the eclipse: Stop eating one to two hours ahead so your stomach is empty. Set aside the window from around 11am to 1pm CDT for quiet, contemplative activity and extra meditation, rather than important calls or decisions.
During the eclipse: This is a strong window for mantra and meditation. A serpent-deity mantra is traditional for an Ashlesha eclipse point; something in the spirit of Om Sarpebhyo Namaha, repeated 108 times, is one option. Doing Shiva mantras, like Om Namah Shiva, or listening to the Devi Kavach, are also protective.
After the eclipse: Let any insight that surfaced sit for a day or two before acting on it. Eclipse-time thoughts run mixed – a lot of it is noise, but some of it is real signal worth keeping. If you are fasting, wait a few hours to eat, and eat fresh food that you cook after the eclipse.
