EYE ON THE SKY — MERCURY IN ARIES: APRIL 30 – MAY 14, 2026
Mercury crosses the gandanta out of Pisces and into sidereal Aries on April 30th, finally escaping its weakest sign after a long stay. The gandanta crossing — Pisces 27-30 degrees blending into Aries 0-3 — is never entirely smooth. Troubled emotional knots need unraveling before the energy clears. Give it a day or two for the static to settle. Once Mercury finds its footing in Aries, the shift is unmistakable: from murky and diffuse to direct, fast, and ready to act. Aries does not ask Mercury to be careful — it asks it to move.
Mercury in Ashwini: April 30 – May 8
Mercury opens the transit in Ashwini nakshatra (Aries 0-13.20 degrees), ruled by Ketu and the Ashwin twins — the “Physicians of the Gods” who shower healing and revitalization from a golden chariot. This is a nakshatra of initiation, new beginnings, and transformational healing. Ketu’s influence here gives the mind a mystical, non-linear quality — useful for intuitive leaps but prone to scattering. Take on only what you can finish. The wild horse energy of Ashwini wants to gallop in five directions at once; the discipline is to pick one and go. Mercury combust begins around May 1-2 (within 14 degrees of the Sun through May 26th), so the entire Aries transit runs through solar fire. Speed and brilliance are available — so is overheating.
Mercury in Bharani: May 8 – 14
Mercury moves into Bharani nakshatra (Aries 13.20-26.40 degrees) around May 8th, ruled by Venus and connected to the deity Yama — transformation, the death of the old, and the creative feminine. Bharani swings between a lust for life and an awareness of impermanence, between naivete and deep wisdom. Venus’s rulership brings creative writing, speech, and a deeper sweetness to Mercury’s expression here. This is one of the more artistically productive windows of the transit — writers, speakers, and performers may notice their work has unusual depth.
The Cazimi: May 14 at Aries 29 Degrees
The transit reaches its peak moment on May 14th: Mercury cazimi at Aries 29 degrees 22 minutes, right at the gandanta between Aries and Taurus. At the cazimi — “in the heart of the Sun” — Mercury’s highest qualities emerge, and the gandanta adds karmic weight. What becomes clear on May 14th may be unwinding a knot that has been building for years. Mark it for meditation, deep writing, or any communication that requires absolute clarity. Mercury crosses into Taurus on May 15th, slowing down and grounding after the fire of Aries. For Gemini rising, this 11th house transit supports gains and networking. For Virgo rising, the 8th house transit calls for care around health and shared resources. For Aries rising, Mercury in your 1st brings directness that can tip into bluntness — use it intentionally.
As always, gratitude to my Gurus and Jyotish Gurus for their wisdom and guidance.
