Jupiter is the big dog in the sky that everyone loves, and from June 19 through August 19 he sits in his single most powerful section of the zodiac: Pushya, the nakshatra that runs from Cancer 3 degrees 20 to Cancer 16 degrees 40. This is the same band that contains Jupiter’s exact degree of exaltation at 5 degrees Cancer. For sixty days the great teacher of the gods is parked in his throne room, and Vedic tradition has long called Pushya the most auspicious nakshatra in the wheel.

Jupiter Inside Saturn’s Nakshatra

Pushya is ruled by Saturn. The combination is unusual and important. Jupiter expands. Saturn structures. Jupiter says yes to everything. Saturn asks if you have the discipline to finish it. When Jupiter sits inside Saturn’s nakshatra, the wisdom that comes through is not the loose, optimistic, anything-goes flavor of an unrestrained guru. It is the disciplined wisdom of a teacher who has been around long enough to know what actually works. This is the kind of grace that builds institutions, drafts the long-term plan, and keeps its promises.

The symbol of Pushya is the cow’s udder, the lotus, and the arrow. Each one points to a different layer. The udder is nourishment, the slow nurturing wisdom that sustains a family across generations. The lotus is the unfolding of consciousness from the muddy waters of emotion into clean spiritual sight. The arrow is the focused direction that Saturn lends to Jupiter’s expansive impulses. The presiding deity is Brihaspati himself, the high priest of the gods, which means Jupiter is essentially channeling the deity that he already represents. Few transits are this concentrated.

The Marriage of Wisdom and Emotion

Jupiter in Cancer is the marriage of wisdom and emotion. Cancer is the Moon’s own sign, the most bullish of the signs, and it is where real education and knowledge begin to touch the heart. As I have taught for many years, morals and wisdom are boring and useless without genuine emotional content. Jupiter here brings strong intuition, beneficial family life, and produces the great coaches, teachers, counselors, and humanitarians who can connect with what other people actually feel rather than what they intellectually want.

This is also a powerful window for the sciences, for healing work, for any path that requires both the open heart of Cancer and the careful discipline of Saturn. Doctors, nurses, healers, teachers, public servants, food producers, dairy work, and anything connected to the literal nourishment of others is favored.

Financial Astrology

For the markets, Pushya carries a documented bullish bias in the historical data for soybeans and crude oil. Cancer itself is the most bullish sign in financial astrology. Combined, the two months Jupiter sits in this band are a constructive backdrop for the bull case in commodities, in equities tied to consumer staples and food production, and in anything connected to housing and family-related spending. Read this through your own cycle work and not as a single signal.

Who Feels This Most

Cancer rising natives have Jupiter on the ascendant in his sign of exaltation in his most auspicious nakshatra. This is essentially the best possible Jupiter transit for you. Use it. Begin the project. Make the introduction. Schedule the surgery. Plant the seed of the next chapter.

Sagittarius and Pisces rising have Jupiter as chart ruler, so this transit reaches everywhere. Both signs benefit from a clearer head, better judgment, and an easier flow with people who can help.

Leo rising has Jupiter in the 12th house of moksha and inner work. The expansion is interior. Spiritual study, retreat, and quiet contemplation are particularly fruitful.

Scorpio rising has Jupiter in the 9th house of dharma and the guru. The teacher you have been needing may walk into the room. Watch for it.

Aquarius rising has Jupiter in the 6th house of service and health. Good health window, good time to clean up the diet, good time to commit to the discipline you have been avoiding.

The Liver and the Body

The other dimension worth naming is the liver. Jupiter governs the liver, which has over seven hundred fifty major functions in the body. With Jupiter strong and direct in Cancer, this is a very good two-month window for a liver cleanse, for drinking warm water with fresh-squeezed lemon every morning, and for cutting back on heavy cheese, fried foods, and refined sugar. The spinal twist and the cow pose support the liver, but get proper instruction from a qualified yoga teacher and do not strain.

Use This Window

Pushya runs from June 19 to August 19. Jupiter then crosses into Ashlesha (Cancer 16 degrees 40 to 29 degrees 59), which is a much more complex constellation ruled by Mercury and carrying the serpent’s intensity. Use these sixty days well. The window of clean Jupiter grace closes on August 19.
