Not everyone who presents as kind, trustworthy, spiritual or experienced – as a healer, teacher or facilitator – is acting with integrity behind the scenes. In my experience, some practitioners can appear highly convincing while engaging in manipulation, dishonesty, boundary violations or unsafe practices.
When you are vulnerable and longing for healing, it’s especially important to trust your instincts, take your time, ask clear questions, and do your own checks before placing your wellbeing in someone else’s hands.
Charismatic facilitators tend to have a circle of loyal supporters around them who echo their narrative. I know this firsthand. The desire for healing, belonging, approval or opportunity can be exploited.
We often assume others think and feel as we do. But some people operate without accountability, genuine empathy or remorse, even while appearing caring, spiritual and awake – and ‘in with the in-crowd’.
If you have experienced abuse or unhealthy dynamics earlier in life, certain patterns can feel familiar and unconsciously draw you toward similar figures again – which is worth becoming aware of.
As in any profession, no one is perfect, but there are people with heart, authenticity, integrity, and accountability. And there are tricksters and ‘wild card’ characters, with conscious or unconscious shadow at play.
In healing spaces, the cost of harm can be significant and may take time to unravel and repair.I learned this the hard way. I also learned where I compromised myself, how to strengthen my boundaries, and what true independence and discernment mean.
🌹Take time to choose healers & facilitators.
🌹Trust your instincts.
🌹Be discerning.
🌹Remember that actions speak louder than words.
🌹If something feels off, you can always leave – without any need to explain yourself.
