Venus is combust by the Sun, which means it is not visible in the sky and hidden from view from November 26th through February 17th. This combustion occurs primarily in Sagittarius and Capricorn, bringing a particularly intense period for relationships, creativity, and the deeper significations of Venus.

What is Planetary Combustion?

At various times of the year, planets in the sky may fall behind the Sun and may not be visible due to the blinding energies of the Sun. This is called combustion. Still, if Venus is the ruler of your chart (Taurus or Libra rising), you will always feel a strong impact from the combustion in transit, particularly when it is within 2-3 degrees.

Venus combustion can raise jealousy issues, so remember to praise and appreciate others at this time. Help them, applaud their success and good fortune. This conjunction can also lead to manipulative energy in relationships, cause annoyances, friction, and problems. Remember to accept people with all their imperfections, or you will likely be seething with anger.

Venus is the karaka or symbol for marriage and relationship, and when the Sun gets too close it can cause relationship problems, strong passions, and fighting if one is not willing to give up one’s position. The Sun likes to stay entrenched in his ego and has to learn how to say yes and bend to make harmony work.

If the sexual/creative energy is not allowed to express itself, it can lead to major conflicts. If you are feeling friction, take a walk and get out of the house rather than get into a battle with your partner.

Taurus and Libra rising signs in Vedic astrology will feel this combustion most intensely. You may continue to experience intense fatigue as the Sun moves toward Venus, so get extra rest and watch overeating or zoning out watching too many movies, or you will get exhausted.

Do not burn the candle at both ends during this period. Plan on extra rest from late November through mid-February. Your energy reserves will be lower than usual, and pushing through will only deplete you further.

The best outlet for Venus’s frustrated energy during combustion periods would be to:

• Go on a wild shopping spree (though watch your budget!)
• Create a massive artistic dinner with friends that you are not likely to get into fights with

This energy would normally create strong passionate expression and artistic creative energies for artists, but with the combustion, it can lead to major relationship outbursts. Channel that intensity into creative pursuits rather than conflicts.

The Gift of Cazimi: January 3-8

Here’s where things get interesting. I learn a lot from my Western astrological friends. While combustion is one of the most damaging things for a planet in Vedic astrology, it turns out total combustion within the last degree is a blessing.

There is the odd case of Cazimi from Medieval astrology where a planet within 40 minutes of the Sun goes into the heart of the Sun and is very energized by it in a positive way. Cazimi combustion can spiritualize individuals as it takes away material manifestation, and the light of the Divine is infused into the soul with combustion.

Venus will be within 1 degree of the Sun from January 3-8, 2026, with the exact conjunction on January 6th at 22° Sagittarius. The exact conjunction of the Sun with Venus can be a really good thing. The planets actually become energized by the Sun, and their most positive qualities come out.
