The Snow Moon in Ashlesha: When the Serpent Meets the Mountain

Full Moon in Cancer • February 1, 2026

The Full Moon reaches its peak on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at 5:09 PM ET. The Moon sits at 18-19 degrees Cancer, directly opposite the Sun at 18-19 degrees Capricorn. This places the Moon deep within Ashlesha Nakshatra—the serpent’s coil—while the Sun anchors itself in Saturn’s mountain of responsibility.

Over my decades of practice, I’ve watched this Cancer-Capricorn axis play out as one of the most fundamental tensions in human experience: the pull between our need for emotional security (Cancer) and our drive for external achievement and status (Capricorn). This Full Moon intensifies that struggle, particularly because Ashlesha itself is such a complex, intense nakshatra.

Ashlesha: The Clinging Star

Ashlesha is ruled by Mercury and presided over by the Nagas, the serpent deities of ancient wisdom. Where last month’s Pushya offered us “the udder of the cow”—pure nourishment and support—Ashlesha offers us “the embrace of the serpent.” This is the energy of intense attachment, penetrating intuition, and at its shadow level, the coiling grip of manipulation or poisonous thinking.

The serpent symbolism here is crucial. Snakes are protective, but they’re also territorial. They have long memories and can strike when threatened. When the Moon transits Ashlesha, our emotional body remembers every slight, every wound, every moment we felt abandoned or betrayed. With the Sun in disciplined Capricorn opposing this placement, you may feel caught between your deepest emotional needs and the cold demands of duty, work, and reputation.

The Saturnian Squeeze

Because the Sun sits in Saturn’s sign of Capricorn, there’s a heavy, sobering quality to this Full Moon. Saturn doesn’t do emotional release easily—it wants structure, accountability, results. You might feel an agonizing pressure: your heart wants to retreat into safety and comfort, but your responsibilities demand you keep climbing the mountain, keep performing, keep maintaining your position in the world.

When the Moon occupies Mercury-ruled Ashlesha while the Sun presses from Capricorn, the mind becomes calculating and fearful. This is where illusory thinking takes hold. You might convince yourself that you’re failing, that disaster is imminent, that everyone around you is a competitor or threat to your security. The serpent’s protective instinct can morph into paranoia.

Reality check: Are you actually in trouble, or is your nervous system simply overwhelmed by the weight of Saturn and the coiling intensity of Ashlesha? This nakshatra can make you obsess over perceived threats. Don’t let that anxious mental loop drown out the truth of your own steady progress.

What This Moon Asks of You

This Full Moon wants you to release what’s been poisoning your peace—the old grudge, the bitter memory, the story about why you can’t trust anyone. Ashlesha’s serpent has a long memory, but you don’t have to keep carrying the venom. Use Saturn’s discipline to consciously archive that hurt and close the chapter.

Here’s what helps:

Clear the mental toxins. Ashlesha is connected to poison (sarpa). This is a critical time to avoid toxic media, toxic conversations, and environments that trigger your survival instincts. Your nervous system is already on high alert—don’t feed it more reasons to coil tighter.

Support your digestion. Both Cancer and Capricorn impact the digestive fire, and this Full Moon’s emotional intensity can literally clench your stomach. Stick to warm, grounding, easy-to-digest foods. This isn’t the weekend for heavy, complicated meals.

Breathe through the constriction. Mercury rules Ashlesha and governs the nervous system. If you feel trapped between your duties and your emotions, deep, slow breathing signals your body that you’re actually safe. The threat is in your mind, not in your immediate reality.

Balance home and mountain. The Cancer-Capricorn axis asks you to honor both your need for emotional security and your worldly responsibilities. You don’t have to choose one over the other. The work is finding the rhythm between them.

Remember This

The serpent’s embrace can feel suffocating, but it’s also protective. Ashlesha’s intensity is meant to help you shed an old skin, not to trap you in fear. Saturn’s mountain looks cold and harsh, but it’s the climb that builds your strength.

This Full Moon isn’t here to break you. It’s here to show you where you’ve been holding on too tight—to old wounds, to rigid expectations, to the story that you have to choose between your heart and your ambitions. You don’t. You just have to breathe, release the grip, and keep climbing with an open heart.

There is nothing to fear. The Divine is always guiding us through these initiations, and you are more resilient than you know.
