SUN IN VIRGO: SEPTEMBER 17 – OCTOBER 17
Virgo is one of my favorite constellations, but it presents challenges for anyone with Sun, Moon, or Rising here. It is a materially and business-oriented sign that strives for spirituality. Virgo struggles with seeking perfection in everything and feeling disappointment when it cannot be achieved. Its purpose is to work with the material world and bring it to perfection, without being dissatisfied with life as it is. By stopping the habit of always looking toward the future and learning to enjoy the present, much of Virgo’s dissatisfaction can ease.
Virgos often battle their own imperfections and those of others, but humor can lighten these worries. They tend to be humble and prefer anonymity over the spotlight, unlike Leo. Yet, the connection of Virgo’s first constellation to the Sun—ruler of the 12th house—creates a tension: the desire for recognition and fame, while simultaneously wanting to hide away in a quiet space.
Mercury will already be in Virgo as the Sun enters, and while some astrologers consider it both exalted and combusted by the Sun, I don’t find this combustion to be heavy due to Mercury’s usual proximity to the Sun. With the Budh-Aditya Yoga in effect, this is an excellent time to focus on organization and business matters. Reviewing your finances and cleaning wherever Virgo falls in your chart is highly recommended. As we enter Fall, Ayurvedic tradition encourages detoxing and reducing the excess heat accumulated over the summer.
The Sun moves into the constellation of Uttara Phalguni from Wednesday, September 17th to September 27th. Known as the social worker of the zodiac, this constellation helps friends in need and possesses strong healing and counseling skills. Spiritually, this transit encourages compassion and community service—assisting the homeless, the poor, or anyone left behind. Engaging in spiritual service during this time helps accumulate merit and advance spiritual growth.
For those who have been focused on material pursuits or artistic illusions, this transit can serve as a turning point, guiding deeper connection to the Divine. Invoking Durga and the creative energy of the Mother Divine can help navigate the illusions of the material world and move toward the true nature of the Divine.
Next, the Sun moves into Hasta Nakshatra (Virgo 10–23.20), September 27–October 11. Here, the Sun is strong in a friendly sign, inspiring others through the power of speech and written expression. It’s an ideal time for public speaking, blogging, or any form of communication where influence and inspiration are key.
Finally, the Sun moves into Chitra Nakshatra (Virgo 23.20–Libra 6.40), October 12–24. This placement brings intensity and can push perfectionism to extremes. Watch your health, especially excess heat, and consult a certified Ayurvedic practitioner for guidance in balancing or eliminating this heat.
Enjoy the energy of Virgo and channel it into creative, world-benefiting projects. Tap into the compassionate, nurturing energy of the Divine Mother. Move beyond material attachments and focus on service, kindness, and leadership by example. The Sun’s transit here encourages dynamic energy, practical creativity, and fostering compassion in a world that truly needs it.
