Everyone cringes at the thought of Mercury retrograde but it is not bad for everyone and gets a lot of bad press. This November’s retrograde is particularly intense as Mercury stations retrograde at 12 degrees Scorpio on November 9th and will retrograde back into Libra on November 23rd before going direct at 26 degrees Libra on November 29th.
The most challenging aspect of this retrograde is that Mercury will conjunct Mars – the bitterest enemies in the zodiac – on November 12th at exactly 11 degrees Scorpio in Anuradha nakshatra. Mars will remain in Scorpio throughout the entire retrograde period, adding an underlying intensity to all Mercury-related activities.
The Mars-Mercury Conjunction in Anuradha: November 12th
Mars and Mercury are bitter enemies in conjunction because Mercury needs to win through the intellect and Mars is too action-oriented to win a war of words. In the deep waters of Scorpio at 11 degrees, this conjunction becomes even more psychologically intense. Together they create mental agitation, sharp words we later regret, and the potential for accidents when we’re arguing while driving.
The saving grace is that this conjunction occurs in Anuradha nakshatra (Scorpio 3.20-16.40), which is ruled by Saturn and connected to Mitra, the God of Light and divine friendship. Anuradha is one of the more auspicious Saturn-ruled nakshatras and is great for spiritual networking and friendship. While Mars and Mercury may be fighting, Mitra’s influence can help us find the light even in conflict. The constellation seeks to bring people together in divine purpose despite differences.
If you have planets at 8-14 degrees of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius), you’ll feel this conjunction most intensely. Geminis, Virgos, Aries and Scorpio risings are particularly vulnerable during November 11-13th.
Critical Safety Warning
NEVER argue while driving during this period, especially November 11-13th. Pull over if conflicts arise. Mars-Mercury rage bubbling up behind the wheel causes accidents when we’re thinking about what someone said instead of focusing on the road. Mars/Mercury causes us to get caught up thinking in our head and hashing over things that people have said and that prevents us from being alert (Mars) and then problems happen.
If you’re exercising or working with power tools, be 100 percent present. Focus on one thing at a time. If you are driving, do not talk on your cell phone and multi-task. Stay focused.
