February and March bring us two powerful eclipses that will test our ability to stay centered when the cosmic lights temporarily dim. Remarkably, Maha Shivaratri arrives on February 15th—just two days before the annular solar eclipse on February 17th—offering us the spiritual preparation we need. Then a lunar eclipse follows on March 3rd. These celestial events aren’t punishments from the cosmos—they’re invitations to deepen our spiritual practice and remember who we really are.
Maha Shivaratri: Building Your Spiritual Foundation (February 15th)
Before the eclipse energy intensifies, we receive a profound gift: Maha Shivaratri on February 15th, the most auspicious day of the entire year to worship Lord Shiva and receive his compassionate grace. This timing is no accident—we’re given the opportunity to strengthen our inner light before the outer lights are temporarily eclipsed.
Shiva, always painted blue, represents the unbounded transcendental value of the Divine experienced in the deepest point of meditation when there is only unbounded awareness. This holiday embraces the notion of merging into the Divine in total unity. It marks a remembrance of overcoming darkness and ignorance in life and the world.
For thousands of years, spiritual seekers have sought Lord Shiva’s blessings on this day through meditation, maintaining silence, and engaging in spiritual practice. It is said that those who honor this day, especially on Maha Shivaratri, receive grace in the form of true wealth, wisdom, peace, inner healing, spiritual virtues, and divine courage.
Many devotees fast and stay awake through the night, worshipping during every quarter until dawn breaks. This practice is very powerful for inner purification and allows you to absorb the abundant divine energy available. Even simple meditation or maintaining silence on this day brings tremendous benefit.
One particularly powerful practice for Maha Shivaratri is listening to the Shiva Rudram, an ancient Vedic hymn that helps transmute emotions into higher purpose. You can find a beautiful version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwPuuKPKI6w&list=RDgwPuuKPKI6w&start_radio=1&t=30s. Playing this in the background during meditation or throughout the day on February 15th can create a profound shift in consciousness, preparing you for the eclipse energies ahead.
The power of this practice before the eclipse cannot be overstated—it allows you to build the spiritual reserves you’ll need when Rahu’s shadow arrives two days later. When the outer lights are dim, the inner light must grow stronger.
The Annular Solar Eclipse: February 17, 2026
Two days after Maha Shivaratri, the annular solar eclipse arrives at maximum intensity at 6:12 AM in Fairfield (12:12 UTC), with the Sun and Moon uniting in Dhanishta nakshatra. This “ring of fire” eclipse—where the Moon doesn’t completely cover the Sun, leaving a brilliant ring of solar light visible—creates a particularly powerful signature. Rahu sits in Shatabisha nakshatra, and Venus also transits through Shatabisha, creating a powerful Aquarian energy focused on healing, technology, and revolutionary change.
Dhanishta, ruled by Mars and spanning the transition between Capricorn and Aquarius, connects to material prosperity and the rhythmic drumbeat of manifestation. When the eclipse occurs here with both luminaries obscured by Rahu’s shadow, our normal confidence and emotional security can feel temporarily eclipsed. The annular nature of this eclipse—that ring of fire still visible—reminds us that even in the deepest shadow, the Divine light is never fully extinguished. The eclipse asks: can you trust the Divine when you cannot see the full light?
The eclipses can bring up intense fear. The optimism of the Sun and Moon can be eaten up by Rahu and Ketu, which becomes a metaphor for allowing the darkness to temporarily destroy the Divine light and plunge us into fear. But it is all illusion. Know that the Divine is taking care of you in the same way that a mother cat nurtures her newborn kittens. Why would God put us on this planet and not provide the resources and love to get us through?
With Rahu and Venus both in Shatabisha, the healing nakshatra connected to medical breakthroughs and biotechnology, this eclipse may bring sudden insights about health, relationships, or material structures that need transformation. Shatabisha, ruled by Rahu itself, amplifies the revolutionary energy—but also the confusion and cloudiness that Rahu brings.
If you practiced deeply on Maha Shivaratri, you’ll notice a difference in your ability to stay centered during this eclipse. You’ve already connected to the unbounded Divine light that cannot be eclipsed.
The Lunar Eclipse: March 3, 2026
Two weeks later, the lunar eclipse arrives with the Moon in Purva Phalguni nakshatra while the Sun transits Shatabisha. Maximum eclipse occurs at 5:33 AM in Fairfield (11:33 UTC), and this eclipse is fully visible in our area.
Purva Phalguni, ruled by Venus and spanning the latter degrees of Leo, connects to creativity, relationships, pleasure, and the enjoyment of life’s blessings. When the Moon—our emotional mind—becomes eclipsed here, we may temporarily lose touch with our ability to find joy or feel secure in relationships. The lunar eclipse can create emotional turbulence for 3-6 months, particularly for those with natal planets in Leo or Aquarius.
With the Sun in Shatabisha opposing the Moon in Purva Phalguni, we have a polarity between revolutionary healing (Shatabisha) and creative enjoyment (Purva Phalguni). The question becomes: how do we transform our lives while still honoring beauty and pleasure? How do we heal without becoming so serious that we forget to live?
Who Is Most Affected?
These eclipses will have the strongest impact on:
- Aquarius and Leo rising signs: The eclipses occur in your 1st and 7th house axis, affecting identity and relationships
- Those with Moon in Dhanishta, Shatabisha, or Purva Phalguni: Your emotional mind is directly touched
- Anyone running Sun/Rahu, Sun/Ketu, Moon/Rahu, or Moon/Ketu dashas: Eclipse energy amplifies during these periods
- Aquarius and Leo Moon signs: Emotional sensitivity increases
It is said that the impact of an eclipse can last 3-6 months for key signs. Still, we need to use the power of our consciousness to overcome the darkness. The light of Divinity cannot be snuffed out for very long, though our minds can get trapped in fear for days.
The Deeper Teaching
Remember Y2K when everyone thought the world would end in 2000, or the Mayan calendar ending in 2012? For some reason, the mind likes to cling to fear. Yes, be safe, but 99% of the things you fear never happen. Fear is like taking a 100-pound suitcase on a trip because you’re afraid you’ll need this and that when you really need a 10-pound carry-on bag.
Despite the media constantly brewing up fear, God is still running the show. We are more powerful than the planets if we are consistent in our meditation and spiritual practice. We can be a master and not a victim.
Practical Remedies
Maha Shivaratri practice (February 15th): Two days before the solar eclipse, engage in deep spiritual practice. Meditate, maintain silence if possible, or simply set the intention to connect with the unbounded Divine consciousness. Listen to the Shiva Rudram throughout the day to help transmute any turbulent emotions into higher purpose. This builds the spiritual foundation you’ll need for eclipse season.
Meditation is the most powerful remedy. Regular practice creates the inner stability to navigate these deep waters of eclipse season. If you find it difficult to meditate due to restlessness, adopt a strict regime of hatha yoga and pranayama to settle you down, then move into meditation.
Grounding practices: The chair pose in yoga, slow exercise like Tai Chi, and walking help anchor Saturn/Rahu’s anxious energy. Avoid cold drinks and dry foods—favor sipping hot water and eating warm, nourishing meals.
Avoid major decisions: The weeks surrounding eclipses (mid-February through mid-March) are not ideal times for starting major ventures, signing contracts, or making life-changing decisions. Wait for clarity to return.
Service work: Helping others experiencing similar challenges takes us out of our own fear and connects us to something larger.
Impact on Aquarius and Leo Rising Signs
Aquarius Rising: The solar eclipse lands in your 12th/1st house area, bringing a profound period of endings and new beginnings. The 12th house governs release, isolation, and spiritual retreat, while the 1st house is your identity and how you appear in the world. You may feel invisible during this time, or experience a dissolution of old identity patterns that no longer serve you. This can be disorienting—who are you when the old masks fall away? The answer lies in the Maha Shivaratri practice two days earlier. Use this sacred time to connect with your unbounded self beyond any limited identity. The confusion and cloudiness that Rahu brings in Shatabisha can actually become your gateway to deeper spiritual understanding if you don’t fight it. Aquarius rising charts can be self-isolating and hide their misery behind a fake smile—this eclipse asks you to be honest about what needs to transform.
Leo Rising: The lunar eclipse on March 3rd strikes your 1st house of self and identity while the Sun illuminates your 7th house of relationships. This is deeply personal. Your sense of who you are, your confidence, your ability to shine—all of this gets temporarily eclipsed. Old ways of being are dissolving whether you’re ready or not. Purva Phalguni’s creative, pleasure-loving energy in your 1st house suggests that you may need to release an outdated version of yourself that was performing for others rather than being authentic. The polarity with the Sun in your 7th house asks: are you losing yourself in relationships, or are relationships helping you become who you really are? Trust the process even when your natural Leo confidence wavers. The light will return, but it will shine from a deeper place.
The Greater Perspective
The planets are your friends if you heed their advice and do your work. The Divine is always taking care of us if we understand its message. These eclipses aren’t happening to you—they’re happening for you, to wake you up, to deepen your practice, to show you where you’re still clinging to illusion.
When the cosmic lights are temporarily eclipsed, your inner light must shine even brighter. That is the real teaching of eclipse season. That is what makes you more powerful than any planetary transit.
Remember, there is nothing to fear.
