It’s a new year, and with it comes an opportunity to cultivate new habits. As this next 12-month cycle begins, we’re offered a clean slate to start again — New Year’s fads aside. If there are any unhelpful behaviors or beliefs you’re ready to leave in 2024, there’s no better time to do so. This year’s astrology is here to shake things up, but it’s up to us to channel its momentum constructively. Just remember: There’s no need to become a new you overnight. In case you need some inspiration, we’ve compiled six things you can do to support your healing and growth in 2025. Here’s to more positive change, abundance, and community care this year.
6 rituals that will enrich your life this year
1. Meditating
Meditation is the practice of quieting your ego’s rowdier voices in order to tap into states of increased calm, inspiration, and wisdom. And there’s not one right way to do it. Some folks meditate by silencing their thoughts. Some by dancing to loud music. And others through guided visualizations. If that last one sparks your interest, check out our library of guided meditations in the CHANI app. With meditation topics ranging from pleasure to boundaries to friendship, there’s something for every mood and need.
2. Rooting into the present
The more we’re rooted in the present moment, the more connected we are to our agency and possibility. One of the best ways to tap into the here and now is by connecting to our senses. This allows us to take in the physical world that surrounds us and remind ourselves that we’re a part of the larger landscape. You can do this by observing the morning dew glistening on a tree branch, inhaling the fragrant steam of your afternoon tea, or giving head-scratches to a pet friend. To help ground your busy mind, try sprinkling intentional sensory activities throughout your day. Even if it’s just taking three deep breaths on the subway, your nervous system will thank you. When you drink life in slowly, the magic all around you intensifies. Test it out.
3. Journaling
Journaling is essentially creating a dialogue between you and the diverse cast of characters who live in your psyche. Think: the wounded inner child, the hopeless romantic, the bold creatrix, the fierce fighter, or the stabilizing, grounded adult. Writing to these different parts of yourself builds self-awareness about your patterning and behaviors. And when you become alert to the various strategies that these selves use to get their core needs met, you can work with them in more beneficial ways. Not sure where to start? Go to the “This Week” section of the app and click on your journal prompts. They’re updated each week and are specifically tailored to the ways that the current astrology is interacting with your unique birth chart. Repeat after us: Dear diary…
4. Building better sleep habits
Getting ample relaxation and high-quality sleep in a world of nonstop news and never-ending to-dos is nothing short of revolutionary. Nevertheless, it’s an important piece of the puzzle. Proper sleep reduces anxiety, boosts your mood, increases mental energy, and strengthens your immune system — everything we need in 2025, right? If you struggle to shut off your thoughts at the end of the day despite your best efforts to go to bed early or distance yourself from the TV, try adding a new step to your unwinding routine: storytime. We recently launched a series of seven 40-minute Sleep Stories narrated by Chani Nicholas that will help you decompress, connect with the cosmos, and put your mind to rest. To de-stress and doze off, head to the Listen tab of the app.
5. Reciting affirmations
Affirmations are powerful tools that can rewire unhelpful thinking and prime you for abundance. You can use them to reframe negative thoughts you want to shift, or bolster your hopes and beliefs. To do so, simply rewrite your negative scripts as positive statements or name your best-case scenarios boldly. An example of a thought you might be ready to change could be: “I am not creatively gifted enough to share my work with an audience.” Rewritten as an affirmation, that sentence becomes: “My creativity is an expression of life’s generativity, no matter what the end result is. When I share it with others, I offer them a blessing.” If you need more examples, open your CHANI app — we upload new written affirmations geared toward healing and expansion every week. Or, check out our affirmation deck, designed to spark new thoughts, prompt ideas, and support you on your mindfulness journey.
6. Healing your belief systems
If believing in abundance is challenging, this one’s for you. To help kickstart your imagination and stoke your faith in what’s possible, begin a regular practice of visualizing your ideal outcomes — down to the details. This could include writing a letter to your future self, crafting a mind map of your loftiest goals, or collaging the experiences, relationships, and transformations you want to call into your life. Whatever you choose to do, make an intention to regularly expand your thinking beyond your baseline expectations. And remember: This isn’t an exercise in airy-fairy fantasizing — it’s a way to productively revamp your mindset. Before you can take tangible actions to create something out in the world, you need to be able to conceptualize it, after all. So dream big and center your desires in your day-to-day — you can never have too many reminders of the good that’s still to come.
